Dimbulbs Are Annoying
So I absolutely love my Macbook Pro, but one minor, persistent annoyance is that after about a minute or so of inactivity the screen automatically dims to half brightness. This is a "feature" that is configurable in the display preferences. I suppose I should clarify and state that it is theoretically configurable. No matter how many times I enable/disable this setting, it persists in the auto-dimming behavior. This is a known issue with no solution immediately forthcoming from Apple.
Recently, this problem was discussed as a listener question on the Mac Geek Gab. None of the suggested solutions worked for me. Bummer. But it was at least reassuring that this was not another one of those seeming I-am-the-only-person-in-the-world-having-this-problem situations.
RSS rocks. So does macosxhints.com. This entry discusses a problem with 24" iMacs which apparently make a humming sound when the screen does the half-brightness thing, so the tipster wanted to disable it for that reason. So anyway the jist is, enter this command to get rid of the annoying half brightness thing:
sudo pmset -a halfdim 0
Thank you macosxhints!!!
