Book of the Week

I'm a fan of "alternative history" fiction. I used to love the TV show "Sliders". So when I stumbled across this book at the book store, I was intrigued. It tells the tale of the American Civil War, but the plot runs a bit differently from the one you and I know. Of course, it uses a rather fantastic plot mechanism to make the alternative timeline possible.



The Guns of the South an interesting read whether you are a history/Civil War buff, a fan of science fiction or some combination thereof. It's fascinating to ponder how things might be different (or the same) based upon alternate outcome. I don't want to give too much away, but the premise involves the Confederate States of American getting ahold of some extremely advanced weaponry, which turns the tide of the war against the Union. But that is only the beginning of the story ... the real story is how things unfold from that point on. If you want a more detailed plot summary, check the Wikipedia entry.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!
